The need for men at the front- is dwelt upon by all the wounded and sick New Zealanders who returned b> the AY illoehra. They speak leelinglt of the extent of the wastage that has taken place in Gallipoli and declare that "the people in the Dominion ca n not he aware of the actual facts or recruiting would he much more biisk. One of the returned soldiers says that all the men on the A\ llloehra, whilst deeply gratified bv the warmth of their reception in Wellington anti Auckland, were nevertheless surprised and not a little, disappointed at one fact. “AYe had heard so much in Gallipoli—and again in Egypt whilst in hospital—about the large reinforcements New Zealand was sending that we expected to find hardly any hut white-haired men in the Dominion when wo got hack. To our surprise, however, we saw thousands of young moil in the cheering crowds who welcomed us. AY hat are thev ■doing here ? That is what we want to know Why don’t they go out and help the other bovs at the front. 1 hat would be far more of a compliment to us than standing on the footpath and cheering us as we go by. plant of ■ who have been in the thick of it and have had nerve-racking experiences are. only awaiting me doctor's permission to'go back.
