NATIVE LAND QUESTION.
A LOCAL BLOCK. PETITION TO PARLIAMENT. Bv Telegraph—Special Correspondent WELLINGTON, July 20. Hon. A. T. Ngata presented a petition to Parliament yesterday on behalf of the natives upon the lists of those entit-linl to be enrolled as owners in the Hereheretau No. 2 block, Gisborne Native Land Court District, praying that an appeal he allowed to the* Native Appellate Court from the order of determination of Judge Jones, made at Wairoa. on June 1< last. The judge then determined the relative interests in a manner which, petitioners contended, was against the weight of evidence. The block «t land in question comprises 9500 acres and, in March 1913, it was valued at -925,4-SG. It. has been the subject of enquiry in tlic Native Land Conit since ISI3B and the petitioners say tliat it 7s not desirable nor reasonable that the final decision and settlement of this large and valuable block ot land, involving 310 owners and their familcs and completing and determining the investigation and varying me orders of several learned judges pi the Native Land Court should rest m the power of a single judge.
