At l lie i.iverpool cam!) inquiry, Major Samis (Commandant of the German eotu;ont ration camp) gave evidence that the latter, was on highground, while, the military camp was low-lying and subject to flooding and. logs. ' There laid Ivon no illness in thi' Gerinun- -nunp, which was provided with many ••onvi'iiienees. including unlimited hot- water, ami food, mosquito nets, electric lighting, anil plenty of warm clothing. This.was chiefly resultant- from the profits of tho canteen. Though provided witli the same rations as the troops, the Germans got 20 per centum more value than t-ho Australians out of their food.
