NO FITTING TIP AT AUCKLAND
(By Telegraph— Special WELLINGTON, duly 18.
The Minister of Defence stated today that the steamer Tofua which has been taken by the Government for a troop transport will not be fitted up at Auckland as has been suggested. Tho work would be done at Otago. The ship would require special fittings and tlioro were the conveniences at Port Chalmers to perform the work more cheaply and expeditiously than it could bo done elsewhere. Auckland, he said, was receiving her share of the work to be done in connection with tho war and had among other things all the sending of supplies to Samoa as woll as the Maori camp.
