"Regarding the suggestion that there were cases of strangles and mud fever amongst the horses at Trcntham the •Minister of Defence hais rereived a report by the director of the veterinary surgeons and remounts on the subject. The. report states that mud fever is not a contagious disease hut simply an inflammatory condition ot the skin and legs and occasionally ot tho under part of the body. The last biweekly) report on Trentham from the veterinary ofFieor did not show a single case of the affliction and no case lias been since reported. Only one case ot mud fever has occurred at Trentham -since the camp was initiated. Very few eases of strangles have occurred. at Trentham and none are in camp at present,, it being the practice to remove all strangles cases at once to special lines at 'Wallaceville LabornToi , an<! the total number of eases ot strangles from Trentham now at Wiillaccville is ]-l, some of those being n early recovered.
