TURANGANUI BOWLING CLUB.
REPORT OF THE ANNUAL MEETING. Tne annual l general meeting of the Turanganui Bowling Club was held on Friday night in the Royal Hotel. Mr A. Sawyer, president 'of the Club, (took, the chair, and was assisted by Mr Monty. Craig, secretary, and Mr Eaton, treasurer. The minutes of the last general .meeting were read and confirmed, and also the minutes of a special general meeting held oil June 11. The committee submitted their report for the season, which was as follows:—' The committee of the Turanganui Bowling Club have much pleasure in presenting their annual report ■ and congratulating members jon tile most successful season. The balance sheet fully sets forth the financial l position of the club. Wo have again to thank Sir James Carroll, Ladv Carroll, and Mr and Mrs Pare Keiha for their generosity in donating to the club sufficient ground for the purpose of providing greens. The sum of £65 10s 6d has been expended in preparing, the new ground for howling, and when the greens are completed the Hub will have sufficient rinks to hold L 44 players in full rink competitions. A tournament was hold in Napier at.. New Year and our representatives had a most enjoyable trip although they were unsuccessful in winning any of the trophies. The Burton Cup tournament was hold on our green at Easter when 22 full rinks competed and; a most successful and enjoyable thrife days’ bowling ended on Easter Monday, “when the final were played. The winners were R. G. Crawford, A. H. Beatson, T. Corson,' and T. A. Crawford (skip), the runners up were D. G. Robertsoh, F. Harris, R. T. Seymour, W. A. Smith (skip). 'Hie winning links both represented the Gisborne Bowling Club to whom we extend our hearty congratulations on securing first and second prizes. The consolation competition was won bv a rink skipped by that good old howler Mr J. I’. Smith, representing the port Aluirin' Bowling Club. Tup intereluh matches were played with the Gisborne Bowling Club during the season, both being won by the Gisborne Club after keenly contested and most enjoyable games. Your committee would recommend that during next season an endeavor should be made to obtain more interclub matches, and to confine the club j competitions to three viz., champion singles, pairs, and lull rinks.
ELECTRIC LIGHT TOUILXAMKNT. Three electric light tournaments were played during the season and proved to he most enjoyable and successful. The winners were: First, H. Lougher. \V. .Findlay.• W. During the season five- club competitions were played, the winners being: (I) President’s Fours, YV. Town, H. Fla veil, J. P. Williams, and Dan. Barry (skip):, (2) Vice-Presidents Pairs. H. Lougher. J. J. -Martin; (3) Rose Bowl Singles, A. Sawyer; (4) J.B. Fours, B. Power, T. Ha i small, J. B. Ley don and W. Howard: (0) Champion Singles, not fitushcd. difficulty was experienced in get Ling these competitions off and it is very clear that some of them should bo eliminated in future. Tho prizes won during the- season will be presented at a special meeting of the club to he arranged by the incoming committee. . Members are requested to obtain nomination papers from the .secretary if'thev desire to nominate any gentleman as a member. The nomination paper must be signed by the proposer, seconder and the candidate and date. The committee, have deemed this procedure necessary on account of too members disclaiming membership. No resignation will ho accepted unless forwarded in writing to the secretary prior to the 31st October in each year. We are greatly indebted to the Press for giving ns every assistance by‘publishing reports of’matches am other bowling items, also to those gentlemen who have so generous!v donated prizes, and to Messrs J. A. Eaton and C. Pistor tor the assistance rendered to the secretary during tho Burton trophy tournament, t u thanks of the club arc also due to the caretaker, Mr H. speakers all hoped that Mr Sawyer would remain on the committee. The members of the club drank a toast in “something warm” to Mr Sawyer, and cordially voted him a “jolly good fellow.’'
The following committee was also elected l : —Messrs A. (Sawyer, R. C6le, T. McConnell, J. B. Leydon, and WHoward. Several new members were proposed for admittance to the clup, including Mr W. Graham, who offered to donate a gold medal for eomnetition between the first and second year players. \ i ■—
