HOSPITAL HOARD PURCHASES. KAMO SPRINGS. (Press Association Teleera.m.j WHANG ARE!, July 16. The Whangarei Hospital and Charitable Aid Board this afternoon do- j cided, on the easting vote of the chairman,'Air N. McKenzie, to purchase the Kamo Springs Hotel and grounds for £6OOO. The purchase includes the famous Kamo Snrings and 44 acres of land with tennis and croquest lawns. The Board intends to grow sufficient vegetables and have its own supply of milk and eggs to meet hospital 'requirements now costing £SOO a vcar. It is. probably the advantages of the springs and hotel as a sanatorium for wounded soldiers will be put forward. KIRK AT A SAWMILL. AUCKLAND, July 16. Tackle and Co.’s timber mill. Spring street. Rernuera, was destroyed by fire at midnight. The insurances are: £077 in the Liverpool, London and Globe on the building and plant destroved, and £766 m the same company on a portion of the premises slightly damaged. WHERE THE STRATHCONA. WAS WRECKED. Further news of the Strathcona by j wireless states that the schooner was i on the north Minerva reef, between I Fiji and the Kermadecs. The relief I steamer now reports that nine men were rescued, all well. The message was interrupted when stating the list of names. FURTHER- DETAILS OF THE .MISHAP. A second message via Suva from the vessel searching for’ the Strathcona was received by the Pacific Cable Board this morning as follows: “On Thursday we found the Strathcona north, of the Minerva reef a total wreck. We rescued nine, all well.” The wireless operator at Suva adds a note that the rest of the message was not received as the signal became faint, apparently tlirougn the failure of tin' steamer’s wireless apparatus. Tim North .Minerva reef is situated about lu() miles south-south-east of Suva. It-is circular, about 3V miles in diameter, enclosing a lagoon varying in depth from three to seventeen fathoms, the entrance to which is gained by a passage a cable wide and about* 15 fathoms deep, situated on the north-west side of the reef. Tongatabu is about- 470 miles east-south-east.

TH E REGI S I RATION O F ARCHITECTS. WELLINGTON. July 16. A judgment of considerable interest to architects was given to-day by Mr Justice Chapman. Arthur Henry Leppor. of Nelson, who since 1872 has done extensive architectural work and erected numerous buildings, applied, for registration as an architect. The Institute of Architects refused the application. He then appealed to the Supreme Court which decided that he is entitled to registration. The Judge, however, did not allow him costs.

July 16. ft is announced that the meeting of the Australian Association for the Advancement of Science, arranged to he held at Hobart next year, has been postponed. CHARGE AGAINST. A MILITARY OFFICER. c - DUNEDIN. Julv 16. A further charge against Captain John Robert Henderson, formerly adjutant of the 14th South Otago Regiment, was heard at the Police Court to-day. He was charged with stealing £ ; 95, a portion of a sum of £1291 paid to v him on behalf'of the New Zealand Government for the payment of officers and men of the regiment during a camp at Milton in 1912. After hearing the evidence, the- ca.se was adjourned till Monday. WELLINGTON, July 16.
