THE BUTTER CRISIS.
IMPORT DUTY TO BE REAIOA'ED. PREMIER SURPRISED AT! LATEST RISE. [Press Association Telegram.] AVELL'NGTON, July 15. . The jollowing show the quantity- of butter in cool store at tbe various ports throughout the. Dominion on 15th July:—Auckland, 4362 boxes; New Plymouth, 755; Pa tea, 367; Wanganui, 1164; Gi; borne, 6-5; \Yelling-t-on, 4416; Lyttelton, 3846; Timaru, 100; Dunedin and Port Chalmers, 503; total, 15,578 boxes. Total in July, 1914, 45,056 ; in 1913, 24.251. Tne Premier informed a “Post” reporter to-day that he intended to arrange with his colleague, the Minister for Customs, to take the import duty off butter until the new season’s supply is available. As far as lie was aoio to judge, there were ample supplies in hand to last until the new season, and.he saw no reason for the increase that had taken place in the price of butter.
