BOROUGH AFFAIRS.
MEETING OF COMMITTEES.
The fortnightly meeting of the Borough .Council committees was held last evening. .1 lie Mayor presided, and there were also present Crs. Bright-, Brown, Lawless, .Miller, Muons, A\ ado and .Wildish. The Cricket Association wrote asking for remission of rates (£114) on their new purchase in Stanley Road. It was agreed to recommend that when the property is being subdivided ■and the grounds are in use for sports the matter be favorably considered. The Electrical Engineer reported, urging the installation, of a fourth Diesel unit at the power station.—lt was decided to defer the matter for consideration by -the -new Borough Engineer. The question of tramways was under discussion when Mr Holland’s letter and the tramway manager’s report thereon, were read.-—lt was decided to thank Mr Holland for his offer and kindness extended to the Council’s representative in Christchurch. It was also decided to order the spares as suggested by Mr Harris, with the exception of cells, and to undertake the necessary overhauling. U. J.' Uosevear applied for an extension of sewage connection in Bal-Janc-e Street.—No funds available at present for the work, b’ut the extension will probably be included in thenew loan, and in the event *ot A} 1 ' Roscvear wanting sewage immediately it could be put in at his expense. The Harbor Board acknowledged receipt of the letter in regard to the sewer pipe under the Taruheru at Hall Street, agreeing to tho proposal.—Board to be thanked for the courtesy -extended.' . „ The Department of Agriculture forwarded renewal of meat export slaugh-ter-house license for the Gisborne Freezing Works. Messrs Nolan and Skeet wrote on behalf of Mr John .Clark, stating that if the Council took any more water from the Arai he would claim compensation. —Referred to the Borough solicitor. „ - The Borough solicitors forwarded an oninion stating that the plans for the new picture theatre were not m accordance with tne by-law.—lt was decided to 'ask the Building Inspector to confer with the Fire Superintendent and carefully study the opinion, and report to the Council by next meeting. '
