WELLINGTON, July 11. The first New Zealander wounded in action has returned to AVellington in of Stoker F: Hawkins, of jrf.jYt.S. Pyrames, who arrived in the Corintliic yesterday. He joined the vessel at Capetown suffering from a wound in the neck caused by a piece of shrapnel shell. He Had joined the British land forces in East Africa, and was wounded while skirmishing. As. a result of the sea voyage, Sawkins now looks tho picture of health. A dramatic incident marked his return. His lirst inquiry at the wharf was for his wife and a baby which was horn while he has been away on active service. The answer lie received was, “At tho Town Hall.” Here the baby-was the central) figure in a coronation ceremony, having been elected Baby Queen and, while her father was " being welcomed at the ship’s side by the few friends who Knew of his return, the “Baby Queen” was receiving homage on the Town Hall stage.
