Supporting his contention that Australia had done more to assist the Empire than.'any Dominion, Air Fisher has issued a statement comparing the Commonwealth’s efforts with that ot New Zealand and Canada, maintaining that in order to reach Canada's contributions in proportion- to population they would have to furnish 72.000 men. hereas they had raised 91,000- New Zealand’s contribution was equivalent to 84,000 from Ana-f-rdia, approximately the number already sent, beside? the assistance of the Navy, which Canadians realise protected their Esquimauit dockyards from Vmi - dcurr-dations. The Conimonwealtlc bad also presented tneAA’ar Office with r motor transport column, costing £290,000, and had given effective aid in hospital shipsand ambulances, in Egypt alone providing 7450 beds. It had created an efficient transport service, costing £IOOO daily. Recruitng is brisk m Sydney and promises to surpass previous records. Victoria is accenting 1000 nien daily. Mr Holman is instituting a scheme whereby the police are obtaining lists of eligible men in country districts.
