“Alangapapa grows more like a city every day,” declared an old resident recently with vivid memories in his mind of the old days when there was nothing but scrub and a bush track where- now stands Gisborne’s mostprogressive, suburb. Alangapapa will be a little way further towards its ultimate development shortly, when the first street lights are lit. The chairman of the Town Board (Air. At . J. AlcCliskie) yesterday had a- conference with the'G-as Company on the subject of street lighting, with the result that satisfactory arrangements were arrived at, andi the company will proceed immediately to erect six gas lamps on the main road, as a first instalment towards the complete lighting of the popular suburb. Select building sites handy to town arc every venr getting mo:: difficult to obtain. ‘ Practically the only sections fully answering this desci'i.pv.on are now being placed on the market. Situated away from the dust of the main roads and almost right in the town, this is an ideal spot for the business man to acquire a section for residential purposes. The class of houses surrounding this locality aiso adds great prospective value to the sections which offer an excellent investment to the speculator. The terms of sale must be considered very reasonable, viz., 10 per cent cash, 5 per cent in 6 months.and 12 months, and tlio balance at the low rate of 5 per cent. With a small cash outlay sections can bo secured which should materially increase in value in the near future. The sections referred to adjoin the handsome new residence of the Hon Sir J. Carroll and are being offered on Saturday next at Miller’s ausetion mart by Alessrs Wilburns and Kettle, Ltd., in conjunction with Mr E. M. Cuthbert. Anyone who contemplates building should make a point of inspecting the locality before that date.*
