WITH THE ITALIANS.

SPLENDID PROGRESS MADE. TERRIFIFC BATTLES ON CARO PLATEAU. EA V ORA RLE DEVELOPM ENT REPORTED. (Received Julv 7, 9.15 p.rn.) “ROME, .July 7. Terrific fighting is going on on the Caro Plateau and is developing favorably to the Italians, who have advanced six miles from the margin of the tableland towards the Vipacco Valley, where the enemy, in considerable force, occupy three successive parallel positions along rows of high hills on a front of three miles.

The debatable ground, however, extends backwards twenty miles. The whole region abounds in wonderful grottos and insidious tarns and has it- spongy subsoil. This makes the district a vast land sea islanded by rocks and mountains. The Italian advance is assisted hv admirable, airship and artillery work, which make the infantry attacks invariably successful. Tho Italian left, in the presence of King Emanuel Victor, reached ihe height of the crisis by capturing a battery and prisonering GOO Austrians.
