DISORDERLY CONDUCT.

A SERIES OF CHARGES. As a sequel to the disturbance, at tho Masonic- Hotel on AVcduesday e\-ouing a- powerfully-built man named Leonard Nu-ly Jacob, alias Ryan, was brought before Air. AA'. A. Barton, S.AI., at the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, on a series of charges. Tho first charge Avas of disorderly conduct, land refusing to quit licensed promises. Accused pleaded guilty, and stated that ho Oind taken liquor -which, owing to an accident some time ago, affected his brain. He also- admitted a conviction (for assault tat Hamilton last year. His Worship remarked that licensees of (hotels, being required by law to keep their {premises orderly, must bo protected. Accused would be fined £2 and 7s costs, in default 7 days’ imprisonment. The second charge Avas one of luia'ing violently resisted Constable Pratt in the execution of his duty, and again accused pleaded guilty. A fine of £2 and 7s costs was also imposed in this case. His Worship stated' that the police must be protected while fulfilling their duty. A further charge of (having refused to quit the Albion Hotel on January 6th when .requested to do so was also preferred against aecensed. and again ho pleaded guilty. Sergeant Hutton detailed the circumstances, stating that accused Avas refused drink at the hotel on account of his already being under the influence of liquor. He hbul then .picked up a iemonadc bottle and thrown it. at the barmaid, but the bottle missed her and smashed a pump handle. The police Avero engaged at- the time over a disturbance in another hotel. Accused was fined £2, avith 7s costs, or in default 7 days’ imprisonment.
