TOO MUCH STRAIN UNDER THE PRESENT SYSTEM. [Press Association.] AUCKLAND,. Jan. 27. The University Council for two hours discussed a motion by Mr. Cameron that with a view to lessen the strain in girls’ schools, and m order to encourage tlic development of practical education, of the same, the Minister be asked to increase the numbei of senior national scholarships, so as to provide fifteen annually for girls only. Members expressed satisfaction that the matter had been brought up for discussion, but decided to take no action at present, the motion being defeated on a division. It was generally recognised that too much strain is'cast upon girls under the present system.
