ORMQNID ROAD RACE
The race for Mr D. J. Barry’s Cup to Ormond and back takes place this afternoon at 4 pan. The competition will finish at the corner of -Gary Street.
A LONG-DISTANCE RIDE
[Press Association.] PALMERSTON N., Jan. 27. Francis (Birtles, Australian longdistance cyclist, arrived in. Palmerston North this morning from Wellington on a record-breaking journey from the Empire City to Palmerston and back. Ho did the_ first half, over 100 .miles, in' Glrrs 57min.s, showing no signs of fatigue.
GHRISTCHUIKCH-DUNEDIN RECORD BROKEN. CHRISTCHURCH. Jam 27. >A. Hum in succeeded in lowering the record for the journey by bicycle between Crristchurch and Dunedin bv 4 hours 19 minutes. He started from Christelmrch at 5.5 a.m. and reached Dunedin at 7.16 p.m. The previous ‘record was put up by A. Colder, on March Ist. 1899, and the journey was done in 18 hours 20 minutes. (Flumm, who did it in 14 hours 11 minutes, was paced by two motor cycles. ,
