THE HAWKE’S BAY AIATCH. [Special to “Times.”] NAPIER, Dec. 29. The cricket match, Poverty Bay v. Hawke’s Bay, was .resumed .at 11 o’clock this morning. Tlie rain of the previous day and night caused the wicket to be slow and easy. Hawke and Fenton carried tlie Hawke’s Bay score from 212 to 250, when the former, who had played a splendid innings for 137 runs, was given out got leg before to Olsen. Fenton was most aggressive and lifted the ball frequently over the fence. remainder of tlie Hawke’s Bay batsmen did not give much trouble, and the innings closed for 313. Fenton was left not- out, 61. Derecourt, Olsen, Aioore and Monk were the most successful bowlers. The first-named especially impressed the Napier men. Fenton considers he has more pace and keeps a better length than any fast' b owler in Hawke’s Bay. Bowman kept wickets splendidly throughout. The evening paper says liis stumping of Chaplin off Olsen was the finest piece of work seen behind the wickets this season. Ashcroft employed liis reserve bowlers in tlie Gisborne second innings, but tlie side •again collapsed and the whole side was dismissed for 84. J. Lang 34, not out, played a good innings. Hawke’s Bay thus won by an innings and 133 runs. , Despite the heavy defeat the Gisborne team are enjoying themselves. They have been well looked after by Air E. P. Smyrk. secretary of the Hawke’s Bay Cricket Association, and were entertained at luncheon each day bv the home team at the Royal Hotel. Later in the day the weather cleared. Auckland resumed batting, being finally disposed of (for 196. Rolf played a fine innings for 64, Bob in son 23 and Sale 22 also playing useful innings. Fisher bowled splendidly, coming out with tlib fine average of 5 wickets for 50 runs. Otago has made a bad start in the second innings, four wickets being lost in compiling 70 runs, Wilson 28 being the principal contributor. Rolf gave a fine display of howling, sending down 15 overs, live of which were ‘•maidens, while he secured 2_wickets at a cost of 9 runs.
