THE CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING. LADY CHAAIPION DEFEATED. [Press Association.] NELSON, Dec. 29. There was a large attendance at the finals of tlie tennis tournament to-day. There was good, cool weather. Tlie results to noon were : Ladies’ singles: Aliss Nunnelly beat Aliss Cock, 6-—B, 6—o; and Aliss Powdrell beat Miss AVellwood, 6 —2) 7—5. Men’s singles: Parker beat Brown, 6—o, 6 —4, 3 —6, 6—4. In the final of the ladies’ singles Aliss Powdrell (Taranaki) beat Aliss Nunnelly (Wellington), B—6, 6—3. Aliss Powdrell was superior in accuracy and back-hand strokes, and also constantly hid Aliss Nunnelly out of position. Aliss Nunnelly has been champion for 13 years. In the men’s doubles F. and A. AA’ilding beat Salmond and Brown, 6 —3, A5 —6, 6—2, 6 —3. In the men’s singles, the final is between AVilding and Parker. The championship banner goes to Taranaki. . In the men’s singles AVilding beat Parker 6—2, 6—l, 6—2. In the men’s double, final, Parker and Doust beat F. AVilding and F. A. AVilding 6—2, .7—5. In the combined doubles Miss AVellwood and Brown beat Miss Travers and Doust 6—2, B—6.8 —6. In the semi-final Miss Powdrell and Parker beat Aliss AVellwood and Brown 2—6, 6 —3, 6 —3.
