POVERTY BAY CLUB

The second round of the double sculls for Mr F. Harris’s gold medals was concluded yesterday evening. W. McGuffie and J. Malone (scrX, beat C. Clark and W. Fitzgerald •(5 sec) by a. length after a good race. T. Clark and R. Hobart (12 sec) beat B. Lowe .and ‘F. E. Porter after a very good race by a length. A. Pritchard •and G. Smith (6 sec) heat G. Douglas and J. O’Neill'(B sec) by a foot. This was one of the best races seen on the river for a. long time. Douglas was leading to within six feet of the post, but Pritchard put in .a -few strokes and won, as stated, by a foot. J. Webb and W. Ball (11 sec) beat J. W. Nicolas and J. Blakely (3 sec). This was a very good “go” down to .Evan’s shed, but Blakely had the misfortune to lose bis seat and had to stop rowing. Then Webb and Hall rowed in winners.

To-night the following crews meet in the third round’: W. McGuffie and J. Malone (scr) meet A. Pritchard and G. Smith (6 sec); R. J ones and P. Fishbach (2 sec) meet J. Webb and W. Hall (11 sec); J. McConnell and R. Huston (12 sec) meet F. dark and R. Hobart (12 sec).
