Mrs. Carrie Nation, the Kansas saloon smasher, has been conducting a campaign in Glasgow, but met with little success, and frequently came into collision with th© crowd.
THE KING’S HOSPITAL FUND. The King’s Hospital Fund has distributed £140,000, an increase of £19,000.
A RESIGNATION WITHDRAWN
At the Primate’s instance, Mr. Cripps has withdrawn his resignation as Vicar-General of Canterbury.
IRISH OUTRAGES—AN INCREASE
Mr.'Birrell, in reply to Lord Lonsdale, stated that there were 234 agrirrian'outrages in Ireland in 1906, and 372 iu 1907, and 537 during eleven months of 1908.
TRIAL OF NIGHT-RIDERS
NEW YORK, Dec. 15
The trial of many night-riders has begun in Union City, Tennessee. There are 125 indictments for capital offences.
GERMAN COKE FOR AUSTRALIA. ADELAIDE, Dec. 16.
Owing to the rise in- price of New South Wales coke, the smelting companies have placed contracts with Germany. The imported article, notwithstanding the duty, can be landed at better prices than the New South 'Wales article.
BRITISH TRADE COMMISSIONER. Mr. Hamilton Wicks, British Trade Commissioner to the Commonwealth, has arrived from London.
