A REVOLVER ACCIDENT. [Press Association.] ' WELLINGTON, Dec. 13. Peter Colin Hume, aged 20, was handling a revolver at his residence, Rilbirnie Road, when the charge exploded, the bullet lodging in his head. He was taken to the hospital. His condition is said to- be serious. A MISSING MAN. A man named Thomas Randall, who arrived from Sydney -a fortnight ago,, is reported by the police as missing since last Wednesday. He had been in a depressed state of mind through being out of work. FIRE IN INVERCARGILL. INVERCARGILL. Dec. 13. A six-roomed house in Teviot street, owned by Andrew Bain, and occupied and used by Mrs. Crocket as a private boarding house, tvas gutted- by fire this morning. The insurance is unobtainable at-present. THE EDEN LICENSING PETITION. . AUCKLAND,* Dec. 13. The petition against the local option poll in Eden lias been -withdrawn. Later. It is now stated that permission will not bo given for the withdrawal of the petition against tho Eden local option poll. FALSE PRETENCES. PALMERSTON N., Dec. 13. At the Magistrate’s Court Henry Lionel Eddie, charged with obtaining hoard and lodging by false representations-, was sentenced' to a month’s imprisonment. Accused, who had been twice previously convicted of other offences,. described himself -as a surveyor’s assistant, and ran up- a hill for £2 14s. LIQUOR IN A NO-LICENSE TOWN. GORE, Dec. 13. The police searched -five different premises at -Gore this morning. They found liquor in -four, and an empty keg in the -fifth. Altogether some-half-dozen kegs and a dozen bottles of whisky were seized',
