CRICKET.
CHAMPIONSHIP COMPETITION.
The Saturday championship matches were continued on Saturday, United meeting Te Rau at the Domain, and Wanderers journeying to Taruheru. The weather was beautifully fine, and although the scoring dn both matches was very small, some good cricket was witnessed.
UNITED v. TE RAU. To Rau won the toss and batted first, but with the exception of Moore (29) they, made a very poor stand against the bowling of Hallamore, Manning, and Reynolds. The last wicket fell with the total tat 52, ono man being absent. United gave a better exhibition of batting, and replied with 108, Gibson (24), Bowman (16), A. Lang (16), and 1 Farrell (11, not out) being the principal contributors. To Rau went in a second time, and at call of time had lost two wickets for 23 runs/ -Th© following are the- scores

The Taruheru skipper won the toss and elected to bat, bait the whole side was dismissed for 62. Wanderers on. going to the wickets did not fare much better ,but managed to pass their opponents’ total,, the last wicket falling for -77. Maude and Hogg avere the chief scorers for Wanderers. Taruheru went in a second time and when stuinps were drawn had 1 lost three lvickets for 23 runs.
AUCKLAND MATCHES

AUCKLAND, Dec. 13. The fifth round of the Auckland Cricket Association’s matches was commenced on Saturday 'afternoon in fine weather, but on very dead wickets. In the senior grade matches Parnell made 136 (W. Caro 49 not out A. Kerr 52) against City ; Coble took four wickets fox* 29 runs; City has lost four wickets for 110 runs (Archer 36, Lambert 31). University, playing against North Shore, made 103 (Robinson 47 not out); North Shore have made 135 for four wickets (Haddon 34, Bush 29, Philson 29 not out). Ponsonby against Grafton made 163 (D. Gallagher 43, Hcmus 33); Grafton are 98 for three wickets (Horspool 56 not out, Colbell 28). Eden colts'against Eden A. have made 227 for seven wickets (Relf 135 not out).
CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 12. The iveatlier to-day was wretched for cricket, light rain falling most of the afternoon, and, becoming heavier, stopped play, just after 6 o’clock. In the first grade competition West Christchurch gained a commanding lead over East Christchurch, whilst lliccarton appear to have St. Albans safe. Linwood have got a decided advantage over Sydenham. The scores are: East Christchurch 125 v. West Christchurch 206 for 6 wickets (11. B. Lusk 71); Linwood 289 (H. C. Ridley 55) v. Sydenham 138 for 3 wickets; St. Albans 100 v. Riccarton 100 for 6 wickets (A. Anthony 52). v* THE CANTERBURY-WELLINGTON MATCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 12. Mr. D. Reese, the Canterbury selector, has chosen the following players to represent Canterbury against Wellington on December 25th, 26th, and 28th: A. Anthony, J. H. Bennett, C. Boxshall, E. Humphreys, T. Malone, A. Norman, S. A. Orchard, W. Patrick, D. Reese, A. E. Ridley, R. B. Wood. Lusk, Sims, and Olliver arc not available. THE CANTERBURY-AUCKLAND MATCH. CHRISTCHURCH, Dec. 12. The team to play against Auckland for the Plunkeb Shield is: Anthony, Bennett, Boxshall, Humphreys, Lusk, Malone, Orchard, Olliver, Patrick, Reese, Sims, and Olliver. OTAGO MATCHES. DUNEDIN, Dec. 13. Another round of the cricket matches commenced yesterday in fine weather. Dunedin, playing against Carisbrook B, made 220 for 8 wickets (Eckhokl 69 not out). Grange made 35 in the first innings against Albion, and 72 for 4 wickets in the second inings. A’lbion compiled 91 in the first innings. Carisbrook A, after disposing of Qpolio for 65, made 152 (Howden 47, Hopkins 45). Casey (Opoho) took 8 wickets for 40 runs, and Fisher (Carisbrook) 7 for 31.
