BOWLING.
GISBORNE CLUB
The weather on Saturday afternoon was very favorable for bowling, and the green of the Gisborne Club was in capital order. Consequently the members of the club who spent the afternoon thereon had an enjoyable time. The muster was a good one, and two games in the match for the Champion Cup were got off, as well as a number of practice games, including two fours. The following were the results of the play:—
CHAMPION CUP
Paltridge 22 beat O’Meara 11 W. Pettie 21 beat Boulton 15. OTHER MATCHES.
T. Clarkson, Lewis, Dodds, and Hookey (skip) 15 beat W. Pettie, Zachariali, Collins, and Corson 14. Boulton,, Kretschmar, and Ponsford (skip) 25, beat Colebrook, Blair, Wilson, and Witty (skip) 12.
Mr. J. F. Pettie, agent for Messrs J. Watson and Co., the well-known distillers, of Dundee, has received from that firm four pairs or silvermounted bowls, of the. best quality, enclosed in cases, for presentation to the club. They are to be competed for during the ixresent season, in various matches according to an allocation to bo made by: the committee.
TURANGANUI CLUB. On Saturday afternoon there foregathered a large number of bowlers on the Turanganui Club’s rinks. Sev r oral practice games, one Handicap Pairs match, and the final for the Handicap Fours were played. HANDICAP FOURS. Somervell, McConnell, Douglas, Williams (skip) 21 beat Clayton, Edwards, Hird, Colley (skip) 14. The latter team received a handicap of 1. Up to the 15th head the game was very even, when Williams was 11 to 10. From this point Colley’s four did poorly, their opponents eventually winning by seven points. The winners each become the possessors of a pair of bowls presented by Messrs G. Matthewson, H. Martin, j. Burns and Co., and Whyte Mackay. HANDICAP PAIRS. (Section A.) R. O. Skeet and Bennett (4) 24 beat Somervell and Sawyer (scr) 16. The former pair soon attained a substantial lead, being 19 to 5 on the 11th head. Somervell and Sawyer did better in the latter haSf, but could not make up the deficiency. THE NAPIER TOURNAMENT. GISBORNE REPRESENTATIVES. The Northern Bowling Association’s (annual tournament is to be held at Napier next month, beginning on the 11th prox. The teams to represent the local bowling clubs thereat were chosen on Saturday. GISBORNE CLUB. The following were selected as the representatives of the Gisborno Bowling Club:— W. Pettie (No. 1) F. W. Euro (No. 2) E. A. Martin (No. 3) T. A. Crawford (skip) The team is' considered a representative one, and likely to give a good account of itself at the tournament. All the members composing It took part in the Auckland tournament. TURANGANUI CLUB. The team selected to represent the Turanganui Club is as follows: J. P. Williams (No. 1) A. Sawyer (No. 2) W. J. P. Gaudin (No. 3) J. J. Martin (skip) The team is a representative one,, and should make a bold bid for the championship. All the members took part in the tournament at Auckland 1 . A team, comprising liird, Ratcliffe, Nasmith, jnr, and Stormont, has challenged the reps., and the contest will be fought out next Saturday afternoon.
