BAY OF PLENTY M.P.

A CHAT WITH MR. MACDONALD.

A RUMOR DENIED

Mr. W. D. S. MacDonald, M.P. for the Bav of Plenty, was in town yesterday "for the first time since his election. In conversation with, a ‘‘Times” reporter,, Mr. MacDonald said he was well satisfied with the majority ho obtained <xi tbc second ballot* especially at Rotorua, and was greatly pleased to see the loyalty of his friends at this end of the electorate. Asked if there was any-truth m the statement made by an Auckland paper that be intended to reside in Rotorua, Mr. MacDonald said he had no such intention at present. “All my private interests are at this end of the electorate,” lie said, “and as I am not a wealthy man I have my living to earn and my Parliamentary allowance will not go very far in looking after the interests of a big electorate. However, my stay in Rotorua lias been a great benefit to myself and f have got to know the people very well. I wiil be as disappointed as the electors if. i do not do some good for my constituency, and if I don’t succeed. I will not ask to be sent back Parliament. Mr. MacDonald stated that he was anxious to see the boundaries of the new Wai'kohu County defined, because he recognised that the separation o*f that portion of the Cook County has temporarily interfered with the County finances, and it is desirable that the portion of the new County boundaries should be marked out so as to relieve the financial tension of the Cook County.
