AN OVERDUE VESSEL
LONDON TO NELSON
[Press Association.]
LONDON, Dec. 7. The ship The Don, from London to Nelson, has been posted as overdue. ' NELSON, Dec. 8. The ship The Don, referred to in a London cable as posted overdue, left London docks on. August sth, and is thus 125 days oil 1 . She was commanded by Captain Hicks, and consigned to Levin and Co., Ltd., Wellington and Nelson, with a very large general cargo. The consignees are not anxious, as trips by sailers of 110 days are not unknown at this port. It is pointed out that the barque Gladys, recently arriving at "Wellington from Liverpool, left the same time as The Don. She made the passage in 122 days. She encountered light winds, but must have had a clear run from the west coast of England, while The Don may have encountered baffling winds in the English Channel. 'l’he Don was heavily laden, being very deep., and if she made a passage even of 140 days, it would not be altogether unusual under frequently prevailing conditions.
