The injured man was taken to the 1 osoital. INVERCARGILL, Dec,' 7. A railway fireman, Norman Thomson, aged 23, hud his foot so seriously crushed this morning that ampuiatiion is necessary. Having see the points, lio jumped on to the engine. ITis foot slipped, and the. wheel passed over his ankle, crushing 't.
FATAL FALL FROM A CART. AUCKLAND, Dec. 7 George McCastiu, 69 years cf age, coal and firewood dealer, met with. A. fatal accident in the h< w North Road, Kingsland, at 0 .30 a in. today. McCastiu was sitting or the shaft of a- cart in which he v. as conveying .a load of firewood to- a customer, when he dipped and fell on to the roadway. As lie fell he rolled and the wheel of the cart passed over his head, inflicting a fracture of the skai'll and a severe sculp wound. The injured man was 'attended by a doctor, who sent him to the' hospital, where he expired at 4 p.m.
