Keen rivalry exists between 'Westport and Greymonth us to the relative merits of each harbor. The “Grey River Argus” has been criticising the former port, and in return the “Westport Times” says that the “Argus” could have found quite sufficient “for searching harbor discussion ut its own door, without goingabroad and publishing matter, calculated to besmirch the reputation, of a sister port. The Grey Harbor —it may be mentioned in passing—is tbe great West Coast nuisance. With the present system of conjoint working by the passenger steamers, Westport suffers severely from the vagaries of the Grey bar, and, besides, the floor 1 , port is hurt in reputation in parts of the Dominion where West Const bars are ignorantly lumped together and tarred with the brush of badness. It will, indeed, be a satisfactory d,ay for Westport when the volume of trade will permit the running of direct steamers between Wellington and Westport,”
