With the present system of conjoint working by the passenger steamers, Westport suffers severely from the vagaries of the Grey bar, and, besides, the floor 1 , port is hurt in reputation in parts of the Dominion where West Const bars are ignorantly lumped together and tarred with the brush of badness. It will, indeed, be a satisfactory d,ay for Westport when the volume of trade will permit the running of direct steamers between Wellington and Westport,”
