POPLAR GUARDIANS SENT TO GAOL.

The Poplar guardians have been sentenced at the Old Bailey as follows : —Peacock and Albert Smith, each 12 months imprisonment; Poole, Joseph Smith, and Finson, 9 months e ;ch; /Bellanan 6 months, and Cordery 3 months. V
[A cable message sent from London on September 27 last stated, that seven Poplar guardians land ex-guar-dians were charged at the Thames Police Court with conspiracy to defraud the board of managers of the Poplar and Stepney sick asylum district. They were remanded, bail being granted. The prosecution alllego that fmucls were conducted by allowing James Calcutt, builder, to effect repairs of the Blackwall branch asylums at his own unchecked prices.]
