POVERTY BAY CLUB

The double sculling races for Mr. C. Morse’s trophies were continued last evening, when the first round was concluded, and one race in the second heat was rowed. The first raco was. between J. McConnell and J. Bragge (14sec) and E. Roche and T. Bristow (14sec), and it .resulted in a win for the former, pair by a couple of lengths. C. Somervell and W. Fitzgerald (Bsec) and A. Kirk •and L. Clark (Ssec) were the next contestants, and a .good race saw the first-named pair winners by half-a-length. The best race of the evening was the heat in the second round between R. McGuffie and P. Fischbach (4sec) and E. Thaxter and W. Dayman (ISsec). The latter crew made the most of their handicap for a time, hut their opponents were rowing very strongly, and eventually overhauled them, winning by a quarter of a length iaftr a'‘slashing finish.
