In reference to t-lie protests against tho proposed erection of a. breivery just outside the No-licenso district of Ashburton, Sir Joseph Ward has replied that whatever the law requires, the Government null carry out. The Prime Minister iJis intimated his opinion that whoever is responsible for the proposal is acting unwisely. He is satisfied that it was never contemplated where tho people had decided in favor of Nolicense tbut. practically, a defiance ol the law should take place. It is evident, says Sir Joseph, that such « brewery can be legally erected, but ho has no hesitation in saying that it ought not to bo done. He, is determined that the will of the people .shall be respected, >and if u brewery ;is erected on the borders of Ashburton, ’Parliament will legislate to prohibit such a tiling.
