A BAFFLED BURGLAR.

NAPIER, Dec. 2
A burglar, who entered tli© residence of Mr. R. Williams last night, received a warm reception. Mr. Williams Avas away on a holiday,/but his wife land servants were sleeping in the house. In his quest 'for booty, tho burglar disturbed Mrs. Williams, who, on going to the top of the stairs, saw a light below. She od to the bedroom to procure a revolver, and the noise apparently ■a| mned the 'intruder, who sought to make good his escape. Mrs. Williams fired at the retreating form, but missed with the first shot. In tho isqpond attempt, however, sho is believed to have hit him in the .shoulder, as lie dropped a big package containing jewellery, silverware, and tho keys of Williams and Sons’ warehouse. The police were immediately notified, but no trace could bo found of the burglar.
