PERSONAL.
The staff of Messrs Common, Shelton and Co. assembled yesterday to say good-bye, as a collenguc, to Mr. L. O. Ingram, who is leaving tho firm to represent a Canterbury firm in tills district. In presenting Mr. Ingram with a handsome case of pipes from his fellow employees, the manager (Ma\ Kells) spoke of the esteem in which that gentleman was hold, and hoped that he would hive a prosperous career. The whole of the staff joined in the good wishes, and Mr. Ingram suitably responded. Constable Dwyer left for Auckland yesterday morning m charge of a young man from Wacrenga-u-'hika, who has been committed to the Avondale mental asylum. Constable Scott, went South by the s.s. Victoria last night in charge of two prisoners; and -3? lad for the. Burnham Industrial School. Mr. A. L. Muir, editor of tho “Poverty Bay Herald,” wasia passenger for Napier by the s.s. Victoria last night. Mr. J. Dore, a prominent member of tho City Band, and for a number of velars employed by Messrs Adair Bros., left for Auckland yesterday morning to take up rl position in the same dine of business.
Staff iSergt.-Major McNair, the new military district instructor, arrived from South yesterday morning, and will return on Sunday. He conducts" a non-commissioned officers’ class in the Garrison Hall this evening, and tho Gisborne Rifles will parade before •him to-morrow night.
A happy wedding was solemnised yesterday afternoon, nt the residence of Mr. A. Sawyer, when his daughter Flossie was married to Mr. C. Davy, the Rev. IV. Grant being the officiating clergyman. The bride wns prettily dressed, and was the- recipient of* numerous presents.,,including a handsome silver butter dish from the members of the Gisborne Ladies’ Hockey Club, of which she was an active member. Mr. and Mrs. Dnvy loft by the s.s. Victoria, on route-for their future home at Inglewood.
