EXTENSIVE CARGO-BR OACHING

AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. * A-s showing the extent of cargobroaching on Auckland wharves, Sergt. Hendry stated at the Police Court .that during the last twelve months one firm 'had received claims amounting to £SOO for shortage of cargo. The claims of a .second firm during (the same period represented £7B, and a third firm £155. The Magistrate expressed surprise that there were no means of detecting and checking this sort of thing.'

The estates of 1.3-r deceased persons were finally/Certified for stamp ■duty last month. The largest were those of Duncan Cameron, of Canterbury* £209,658; Jane Thompson, Southland, £29,159; Richard Roskell, Auckland, £IB,OOI.

UNION CO.’S BENEFIT /SOCIETY
DUNEDIN, Dec. 1. The Union Steamship Benefit Society has adopted a resolution authorising the executive rafter conferring with the Directors of the Company, to either terminate by voluntary dissolution or amalgamate with somo other friendly society favorable-to reception. The chairman mentioned that while tho society had proved of the greatest benefit to the members, so little wns it appreciated that of 2000 employes afloat, eligible for .'membership, only 107 belonged to the society. Thirty-four afloat during the existence of the society had contributed £4726, equal to 65 per ceut. of its acccunmlated funds.
A COACH FACTORY BURNED
Robin and Co.’s coachbuilding factory was partially destroyed by fire airly this morning. The building was damaged to the extent of £SO, and the stock was damaged to the extent of £2OO. The building was insured in the National office for £330, and the stock for £350 in rtke Guardian and £2OO in the Anistiulian Alliance. The cause of the fir© is a mystery. • ' , - : AN INQUEST. '
An inquest on Patrick McDonald, farmer, who died through tho wheel of a cart passing over his abdomen, was held to-day. A verdict of accidental death from laceratioft of the liver was returned. -
