MUNICIPAL ABATTOIRS.
AN AUCKLAND UNDERTAKING
[Press Association.]
AUCKLAND, Dec. 1. Referring to the fact that tho Auckland City Council would in future control the slaughtering of meat at the municipal abattoirs, Mr. J. A. Giilruth, Chief Government Veterinarian, yesterday said that of all the centres in the Dominion to adopt up-to-date methods Auckland and Wellington had been tlie last to take proper steps. Auckland was tlie first city in tlie Dominion, however,, to erect municipal abattoirs. After.a long delay he had condemned the old site years ago, and a license bad been refused for tlie old premises, so that Auckland bad been in the peculiar position of car lying on business in illegal premises. Now lie was pleased to find that the City Council had erected up-to-date abattoirs, and they would be the first municipal body in the world to - undertake the entire control and supervision of the slaughtering of meat.
