ALL NATIONS’ FAIR.
YESTERDAY’S PROCEEDINGS
The AY Nations’ Fair was continued in. the Garisen Hall yesterday afternoon and evening. There was a moderate attendance, and a satisfactory amount of business resulted. This aternoon and evening there will be displayed a Very choice collection of fancy goods of all descriptions, which have been ' specially acquired lor the Fair. When Mr. Vincent Barker left on hie recent world’s tour ho undertook to select an assortment of fancy goods Suitable _ for presents. The result of his labor is a beautiful collection of goods from the United Kingdom, the. Continent, Egypt, China, Japan, America, and elsewhere. Yesterday evening a children’s entertainment, arranged by Mrs. T. H. Wood, was given. Mrs. Wood had evidently taken great pains to thoroughly co.ach the juveniles, and the result of her efforts was extieinci'.y gratifying. The programme opened with a display of "Mrs. Jarley’s” waxworks, consisting of some 15 figures, the Bluebeard being particularly good. A plantation song by ten little nigger boys was given, and a good item was a recitation by Miss Alice Jones. Master Bundle Fry contributed a song, and a number of cadets, in uniform, sang "I want to be a soldier.” A number of pretty fancy dances, specially designed and arranged by Mrs. Wood, were also given. A similar entertainment will be given tins evening. At the conclusion of tlie children’s concert, a Maori demonstration was given by a number of students from Te Rail College. The proceedings opened with a haka, followed by single and double poi dancing and a spear dance. The programme was an excellent one. each item being given with commendable grace and vigor. The programme will be reiieated this evening, when the students will also sing one or two part songs. By special request the haka will also be performed in the afternoon. The secretary (Mr. H. W. Po-well) wishes it to be understood that there is no extra charge for these entertainments
