NATIVES IN TROUBLE.
THREE YOUTHS CHARGED WITH THEFT. REAIANDED FOR SENTENCE. The three native youths who were arrested <pi Friday, 'in connection with the theft of maize and other articles from settlers at Te Arai, appeared .at the S.M. Court on Saturday morning. Two of them, named Hepi Nepia and Hirini Aparaini were charged with having, on October 26th. at Te Arai, committed the theft of three bags of maize, six empty sacks, and a tin of kerosene, the property of Charles Gibson. Air. 11. Hei acted as interpreter, and both accused, who elected to be dealt with summarily,, pleaded guilty, ofFering to refund tho value of the articles stolen.
His AVorship ordered that the accused be remanded until Wednesday, in order that a report might be received from the Probation Officer.
A similar course was pursued in the case of the youth Yv r i Patene, charged with the theft of balf-a-sack of maize, valued at 95., the property of Robert Preston, Te Arai.
