A BLAZE AT LYTTELTON

CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 1. The grocery and bakery premises ■ *of Messrs 0. H. Agar land Co., Lyttelton, were destroyed by fire befinveen three and four o’clock this rmorning. The premises consisted of Two storeys, the npper part being used' as a. 'residence by Mr. and Mrs. J. Gellety. As far as could be discovered the firo started in the shop and it spread quickly to the upper storey, and did not give time for any of the stock or of Mr. and Mrs. Gellety’s furniture to be saved. The premises were insured in the Victoria Office for £3-50, but the loss is esti- _ mated at double that amount- The stock is valued at between £6OO and :£7OO, and was uninsured-. Mr. < Gellety’s loss of furniture was pa<rm • tially covered by a policy of £l5O.

INCENDIARISM AT OAMARU

OAMARU, Nov. 1. "Three apparently deliberate attempts at incendiarism were perpetrated at an early hour this morning. The fire brigade were called to. a fire at the tennis pavilion, and this was subdued. Tho circumstances were suspicions. At" a later hour the same place was found' to he on fire, a tin of kerosene having been thrown about the building. Later ia. marine store was found to be on fire, the back door having been broken open. ■None of the places were insured.

CONFLAGRATION AT KILBIRNIE

WELLINGTON, Nov. 1. , A fire at Kilburnie this morning de--T‘- stroyed* a 17-roomed boarding-house and another house, and partly destroyed a third building. The buildings were owned by Mr. Phillips, of Kilburnie. They wore 'insured for a total of £3200,. it is understood with C the Liverpool and. London and Globe Companies.
