NOTES.

(By “Toucher.”)

To-morrow witnesses the opening of the Turanganui Club’s green for the season’-s play. The rinks aro looking in tip-top order, and without doubt should -furnish good opening play. Many trophies have been donated, and arrangements are being made to take entries for Handicap Fours; Handicap 'Pairs, and Handicap Singles. Quite -a number of seats, are being donated-to the Turanganui Club this season. Seating accommodation has always been badly required on this green, and the donations will prove very-acceptable. Amongst the donors are Messrs Alatthewcson, Hepburn, TBruce, Colley and McConnell. Tho following new members have been elected to tho Turanganui Club : J. B. Leydon, G. Lapidge, F. Farrell, F. Traill, C. F. Lewis, T. Haisman, AI. McPherson, E. T. Harries, J. AY. Somervell, J. Nicholls, G. Norcross, G. Evans, J. Eaton, A. Zach-ariah, V. Hooper, H. Anderson. Four candidates (Messrs AV. Hay, E. Cussens, F. Creamer, and Douglas) are posted oil the board for- .mem-'' bership. The club is to be congratu-" lated on tho acquisition of so many new'members. ' ! '

Among tho many trophies promised to the Turanganui Club for the coming season, are bowls presented by Alessrs J. Burns and Go., Auckland,'White and M.ackay, H. Martin, and G. Matthewson, and a walking stick by Air C. Alorse. Many. other trophies are also stated to bo forthcoming.

Local bowlers will be pleased to seo that tho Northern Association has granted permission t-o the Gisborne Cl-ub to adopt tho principle of two -foot on the mat .in so far as .'its own members are concerned. I understand that the Turanganui Club also intends to adopt tlie same principle, the -advantages of which arc obvious.
