Al< >Bsrs AYilliams and Ivettlo, Ltd., are in receipt of .the following report fnom their London -agents, under date of 7th August:—The fourth scries of coloniiil wool sales for Urn current yc-ar, which opened on the L-lth ult.. tormina, toil on the Ist ••inst.- Tho sides throughout have been marked bv keen and, active competition, with animated biddings except for a few days after tho second week, whilst a feature of .the series has undoubtedly been the keenness of American biddings -for medium greasy crossbreds in light condition. At the outset prices of inor'inos, showed in advance of about 5 per cent;; there has not been much aiHora.tion in this position, hut the befit prices have hardly been maintained. In crossbreds all dccriptioits opened at an advance -of -about 6 per cent., whilst gveasios of medium qualities in light condition., suitable for* American requirements, under keen competition quickly -advanced a further 5 per cent., and subsequently have practically followed the same course as greasies, being dearer in the early part of the series than Alter. As compared. w ; ‘h the closing rates of Aliy series we quote the following changes:—-Merino scoured, superior or fine. Id to Id dearer, medium )d to Id dearer, coarse or -inferior Id dearer; merino greasy, super. Id' dearer, medium par to Id dearer, coarse -}d dearer: crossbred scoured, super, {d to Id cheaper, nie-diium )d cheaper, coarse par to jd cheaper: crossbred greasy, super, unchanged, medium )d dearer, coarse -Jd dearer: sliprs, super, unchanged, medium par -to Id dearer, coarse par to Id dearer. Trade continues somewhat depressed, both in Europe and America. At the same time stocks .in manufacturers’ bands are much reduced, and any improvement and expansion of consumption would doubtless have the effect of hardening values. In spite, therefore, of, the barge supply that will be available for 1 the September series, .amounting to about 200.000 bales,,- wo hope to see present values maintained. Tho next auctions will commence on the 29th September. Sheepskins.—The -auctions " were held on the 30th ult., when 7361 hales, including 1930 halos Punta Arenas, wore offered. Competition was very keen, and prices of combing merinos improved )d to jd, whilst other merino descriptions wore about unchanged. In crossbreds the finer descriptions were Id to Id dearer, mediums unchanged and coarse* par to Id dearer. Short and shorn about unchanged. CLEARING SALE.
