BRIGHT PROSPECTS FOR WORKERS. [Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Sept. 10. Up to noon to-day about forty-fivo of the lonic’s immigrants bad called at the State labor bureau, but today’s contingent numbered only half-a-dozen, Considering the number that landed here the inquiries for berths are fewer proportionately than they have been for any jmevious steamer. “The country seems to be absorbing them,” said one Departmental officer to-day. “Most of the applicants have been sent up country to farming work, for which, they'said they had qualifications. Four were despatched to the railway works in the Gisborne district, and berths were found for two 'gardeners, a baconcurer, a cabinet-maker, and'an upholsterer locally. There are carpenters, painters, and builders’ laborers still looking for employment, but in other respects, according to the Labor Department, the prospects for workers have brightened appreciably. Now that- the spring is getting well established, willing hands are wanted in the country.
