NAPIER, Sept. 7. A meeting of workers held in the Trades Hall to-night was addressed by Mr. A. L. D. Fraser, M-P., on the subject of the Workers’ Dwellings Act and the Advances to Workers’ Act. A resolution was passed to the effect that the Government be requested to establish workers’ dwellings on Government land on the main road between Napier and Awatoto. WELLINGTON, Sept. 7. Tho following is Captain Edwin’s weather forecast to 3 p.m. to-morrow: Strong westerly winds arc probable, and rain in most parts, with a falling barometer.
The results of tho first complete year’s operations of the Wellington City Council’s electric lighting department show that after-, providing for interest, sinking fund ,and depreciation, there is a net profit of £6122. CHRISTCHURCH, Sept. 7. An inquest was held this morning on tho body, of Thomas Tongo, who was injured by being run over by a drav at Sproydon oil Thursday, arfd who died on Saturday night. The jury returned a verdict of accideiflfal death, no blame being attached to anyone. DUNEDIN, Sept. 7. A man named George Milne, 58 years old, died suddenly at Mosgiel Bush yesterday. Ho was attended by a doctor on- August 29th, but the latter refused to give a certificate on the ground that deceased had been receiving treatment from an unqualified practitioner sinco that date. An iifquest will be held to-morrow. - INVERCARGILL, Sept. 7. _
The local Trades and Labor Council decided it could not support the resolution suggesting that Justice Sim should be removed from the presidency of the Arbitration Court, but, at -the. same time, sympathised with the Canterbury Farm Laborers’ Union in their failure to get. an award in their dispute.
