[Press Association.] NEW PLYMOUTH, August 6. Taranaki gave a shocking exhibition of football to-day in the match against South Canterbury, lacking dash and finish. The new players alone played up to interprovincial form, while the cracks, Cameron, Dive, Hunter, Coleman, and O’Sullivan were painfully inaccurate in thenwork. The South Canterbury forwards played a fine game, while the backs were fairly safe, and with little difficulty made the first npell end in a draw. Early in the second spell Mynott made a fine opening and passed to Sheehan, who dashed across. South Canterbury forced many times, but Taranaki’s attack was disjointed vnd undecided. Near tho end of the game the visitors attacked strongly, and on the call of time O’Brien crossed the line, but unfortunately just failed to ground the ball. Tho game ended in a win for Taranaki by 3 points to nil. For the winners, Mynott and Hard greaves (bucks) and Pakere and Tamili (forwards) played solidly; while Spillane, Scott, Bradley, and Priest (backs) and Roddick, O’Brien, and Budd (forwards) were most prominent amongst the visitors. Scliwnss in 1900 for “ringingin.” The application was refused. It was decided to forward an appeal by the Donniston Club against the decision of the referee in a recent match with rivals to the Appeal Council on receipt of the necessary fee. In connection with the recent disqualification of the members of two teams in Invercargill for refusing to play a match it was decided to inform the Southlind Union that at present no further action is necessary, blit that in the event of any breach of the rules of professionalism the Southland Union will be relied on to take any action that may be necessiry. This decision was come to in_ consequence of a threat on the part of the suspended players to take up the Northern Union game. The Wellington*'Union forwarded the application of 8. Paul, of tlie -Poneke Club, for reinstatement as an amateur, lie having played in the Baskervjlle benefit mutch, under Northern Union rules. With regard to Paul’s caso it was decided to point out to the Wellington Union that the matter had not been reported t 0 the New Zealand Union, which could not, therefore, deal with it. An application by D. Gilchrist, a. member of the professional team which toured the Old Country, to have his disqualification removed, was not- entertained. The Wellington Union forwarded a letter from the Wallace Testimonial Committee asking permission; to pl. iy a match with a view to raising money for tlie fund. It was decided to reply tbit suc-li a match could not bo played as it would be a breach of tho rules regarding professionalism, and that any pi lyers taking part in It would have to be disqualified.
