HUNT CLUB’S RACES.
Owing to the rough weather prevailing yesterday the limit Club’s Races wore postponed formally until today, as racing rules only allow meetings to he postponed from day to day, but the committee will meet again this afternoon and iKvstpone them un’til to-mor-row, when, weather permitting, they wilt be liclil, the first- race starting at half-past one. There was an impression among owners that the Hunt Club’s programme had not been passed by tho Motropolitau Committee, and that houses racing would run tho risk of disqualification. Tho programme was submitted to tho committee some time ago. The Hunt Club has received full authority to hold the meeting, nnd owners racing their horses incur no risk. - RICCARTON NOTES. Contender nnd Tremulous together brushed over a hall-mil© in 52s©c. Love Wisely ran five furlongs fairly comfortably in Hnm 7 1-osec. Canton and Ben "Fortune put in a sound gallop over n mile and a-half, finishing together; while 'Ate© Macgregor fencod satisfactorily in a schooling task. Monkey Puzzle, defeated Cannonier in n milo gallop in 1 niin 51 3-ssec. Hilarity ran a mile easily in lmin 54soc. Don Orsino was bettor than Lapland over a mile, run in lmin o4sec. Lo Beau defeated Nadador over a mile anil aqunrter. Vasa dashed over six furlongs. the list five in lmin 8 2-ssec. Ala id of Astolat cast five furlongs behind in lmin 7 l-ss;ec. Pilot fenced beautifully, and Zetland dashed over six furlongs in lmin 20 I-ssec. Golden Cairn defeated Lupuliie over ‘ a similar distance in lmin 22sec. Ghoorka, looking well, compassed the circle at three-quarter speed, moving freely. The Hand was scratched for the New Zealand Cup this morning. Exmoor was scratched for all engagements at the Grand National this morning. HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB. [Press Association.] HASTINGS, August 6. At the annual meeting of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club to-day, the report stated that the mortgage of £4OOO was paid off and the racecourse and buildings are now free from enoumbrances. The money paid in stakes last year was £7490, an in--crease of £970 on the sum paid in the previous year. The profit and loss account disclosed a profit of £2239. Sir William Russell was re-elected president. The committee of the Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club to-dav considered programmes for tho ensuing four race meetings, and it was decided to give an increase in stakes of £875 as follows : Spring meeting £6O, summer £lO5, autumn £350, and winter £360. The Hawke’s Bay Cup Handicap is increased to 450sovs. The Hon. J. D. Ormond has promised to present a Cun for tho Hawke’s Bay Cup Handicap in 1909. Tlie dates of forfeits in classic events were extended to later dates.
