A BLOW TO ZEPPELIN. United Press Association. Copyright BERLIN. August 5. Count Zeppelin’s airship started for Friedrichshaven yesterday morning. It passed Basle, Strasburg, Darmstadt, and Meyeuce. Then after twelve hours’ travelling, owing to a defect it descended into the valley of the Rhine, at Oppenheim. When the defect was remedied the airship proceeded on the voyage at night. At night it again descended «nd to-night resumed the journey to Lake Constance. A thunderstorm caused the expbsion of Count Zeppelin’s airship, destroying it. DETAILS OF THE EXPLOSION. While tile moored airship was being Tepaired at lEcliterdinget on Wednesday afternoon, a sudden violent thunderstorm struck the airship, ■blowing one of the cars into the air. When it fell to the ground its motor exploded, igniting the rest of the airship. . , . ... Several soldiers who were holding the car were severely injured. _ The storm blew the blazing airship -A away, completely destroying it. Fifty thousand witnessed the incident.. . ... When the blazing airship rose in the air one of the in the car jumped from a considerable height and was mortally injured. Others were badly burnt. When informed of the destruction of liis airship, Count Zeppelin burst into tears. . Profound sympathy is expressed for Count Zeppelin, and a movement lias been organised to make a great national gift to him. The Federal Government Ins defied to pay Count Zeppelin £25,000 compensation. '
