ALLEGED MURDER OF A CHILD. TWO MAOR IB ARRESTED. [Pukhh Association.] WHANGAREI, August/!. The father of the h/« » cused, with whom they lived, developed insanity of a violent type, and_on July 2nd flung'a child on the fire, This mail was committed to the Auckland Mental Hospital a day or two after, and the child was placed under treatment at the Wbangarei hospital. About the same time as this shocking occurrence, it is stated that Hirini and Emma also threw their child on the fire three times. 'The baby struggled on the hearth, and was flung back again. It was then thrown, outside to die a tortured death, and was left there all night, being buried secretly the next day. Tlie dreadful facts appear to have been only discovered recently by other Maoris, who at once notified the police. An inquest is boing held, but will probably he adjourned to call important witnesses.
The two accused were charged at the Court of the wilful murder of their infant son, and were remanded to August 14th.
