It is understood that the ‘•Dominion” was responsible for the statement that E. J. Jackett, the brilliant full-back of the British football team, had accepted a position in tho New Zealand Tourist Department. The Prime Minister, however, has informed tho House that he had wired to Mr. Donne in Auckland concerning the alleged appointment of Jackett to the Tourist Department. Mr Don lien’s reply stated that lie knew nothing of any such appointment. He had not met, and did not know Jackett.

A deputation of the leading natives of tho district, while waiting on Mr. Keefer, the newly appointed President of the Tai-Rtnyhiti Maori Land Board, on Wednesday morning, in connection with Waipaoa, Kainna and other blocks vested in, the Board, took the opportunity of endorsing Mr. Nolans remarks at Monday’s sitting of the Board, eulogising the busincssliko abilities, honesty, and other good qualities of the new President, and remarked that never before had the natives concerned had more confidence in the Board than they had in it as at present constituted. They were pleased to hear the opinion of the legal gentlemen, of the town coincided with their own. Mr Keefer, as member of the Board, had done them excellent service, for which they were deeply grateful, and they were sure that under his Presidency the natives would never have causo for complaint against tjie Board.
