AN IMPERIOUS OFFICIAL.

FALLS FOUL OF THE PRESS. A PERSONAL MATTER. [Special to “Times.”] WELLINGTON, August 4. The local Official Assignee, Mr. Simpson, whose recent action in refusing to allow a Jew to keep his hat on while taking the oath was severely commented upon in Parliament, at a meeting of creditors this morning questioned a pressman present as to his right to report certain facts connected with the Assignee’s attitude in the case in question. The press man stated that was a matter between himself and his editor, but the Official Assignee said that it was a personal question between the reporter and himself. He added that the press was only allowed to attend such meetings of creditors “on sufferance.’”
