THE HUEUNUI SEAT.

CHRISTCHURCH, August 3. Mr. D. D. Macfarfane, who had announced himself as a candidate for Hurunui at the next election, lias just returned from a visit to Australia. Owing to continued ill-health' Mr. MacfarTane has decided to retire from the contest. He was ailing during the whole period of his visit to the Commonwealth, and has returned far from well. It is understood that (Mr. O. F. Clothier, of Hawarden, will be tlie Opposition candidate. THE PALMERSTON SEAT. PALMERSTON N., August 3. Mr David Buick, a well-known farmer and racehorse owner and breeder, is mentioned as a probable candidate for Palmerston North seat in the Opposition interests. Mr A. Buchanan, of Jersey holm, Palmerston, has announced his intention of contesting the Palmerston seat at- the coming election. Mr. Buchanan’s platform will be an independent one.
