Tho firm which is negotiating tlio loin terms witli Lloyd’s Bank explains that the Government are open to a charge of breach of faith through the notion of thejf London representative. Tho firm’s efforts' resulted in requests from more than ono treasurer to compete against the so-called London ring. It was not pretended that they or anyone elso could do without brokers, who' were just as necessary in connection with loans as tea dealers were in the distribution of tea. Tlio firm succeeded in arranging the business question with the largest hank in Britain and 6ome brokers of high standing,- and made absolutely possible what was said to bo impossible. Tlio reason for the failure was one for tho Government tp investigate. The firm has already intimated that it intends making no claim for commission, but will demand for the credit of South Australia that inquiries be made by the Government ns to the reason the London representative did not sign the agreement.
