Several alterations have been made in the forward ranks sinco tho AYanganui match. Great interest is being taken in the match. Tlio largo auxiliary stand at Alexandra Park, the erection of which was decided upon in view of the enormous crowds that are expected to attend tlio several big Rugby matches, was completed to-day. The stand is about a. quarter of a mile in length and will seat from 12,000 to 15,000 people: Two tons-of bolts were used in the structure. The stand is to he •it the disposal of the. Auckland Rugby Union until September 15th, after which it may be dismantled. The opinion has been expressed that tlio structure is the largest auxiliary stand which has ever boon erected in the Southern Hemisphere. THE PROFESSIONAL GAME.

Johnston, a member of the professional football team from England, sailed -again yesterday for the Old Country, undee engagement to the Wigan Club, He hopes t 0 return to the Dominion in about two years to take home a team of players selected by a gentleman-who has been already appointed. Arrangments will bo completed during his stay in England. According to -Johnston, the Maori team, on its return from Australia, plays,-a match at Auckland against a combined Auckland and Wellington team, while there is a probability of a- match being played in Wellington. This, he considers, will he the first step towards professionalism in New Zealand. THE MAORIS BEATEN. United Press Association. Copyright BRISBANE, July 8. Queensland defeated the Maoris at Warwick by 26 to 14. ? UNIVERSITY TOURING TEAM. A SECOND DEFEAT. United Press Association. Copyright SYDNEY. July 8. The match New Zealanders v. Sydney resulted 26 to 11. The team was: Back,- O’Leary; three-quarters, Robinson, Adams, Dansey; five-eighths, Young and Lomas; half, Gray; forwards, Fenwick, AVilson, Collyns, Delamerc, Land, Grace, Lynoch; and Tansey. The visitors had much the best of the" first spell.' The forwards played finely. Dansey, Young, and Deiamere played well. Tins score, at half-time was: New Zealand 11, Sydney 8. In the' second half, hoivbVcr, the weight of the Sydney team told, and they brightened up considerably, making a clinking game at times. The New Zealanders might have scored on several occasions hut for overanxiety. Tries were obtained bv Robertson and Deiamere, - while Adams converted one. Dansey got a goal off a mark.
